Preparing for Digital Storytelling

One of my students, K. F. Is working on a digital storytelling project with her 1st graders. It reminds me on an article that I work on with several others including Allen Webb on the topic about ten years ago. The technologies have changed, but the basic principals to telling a good digital story remain the same. See http://tiny.cc/7hoo6

Throughout the “Educating the Digital Tribe” blog, I found many different interesting articles. After viewing the articles, I found it difficult to decide which one to comment about. However, since I am very fond of storytelling books, and multimedia, I decided for the “Preparing for Digital Story Telling” article. Although the article was written ten years ago, what impressed me the most was, how accurate this article was about predicting the influence that digital video producing is having today. For example, there has been a major increase in the popularity of web apps like: YouTube, Teachertube, and Xtranormal.

It takes time, effort, and creativity to create a good digitally composed story. Something that caught my attention within the article was that some teachers took more than forty hours to produce a five minute story. I learned that it takes a lot to persuade some veteran teachers and faculty members to integrate technology into their teaching curriculum. Finally, I learned that digital story telling is here to stay and it is a powerful tool in the teaching and learning environment.
